2025 Artist in Residence
July 26 - August 20
Halla Lilja Ármannsdóttir is an Icelandic textile artist and designer. She graduated from the London College of Fashion in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Textiles: Knit. After graduation, she returned to Iceland to focus on her practice. During this time, she participated twice in Design March, Reykjavik’s leading design festival, and the annual craft fair Handverk og Hönnun, following that, she became a sitting board member of the institution.
Halla’s work has gained recognition internationally. She was featured in an interview on the Danish TV show Feldthause & Bagger Taper Masken and was invited by the Slovenian textile group Oloop to take part in their 20th-anniversary exhibition. As part of the event, she hosted community workshops in Ljubljana, where participants created crocheted sculptures together. She also gave an artist talk and was interviewed on Slovenia’s national radio.
This summer, Halla opened her first solo exhibition in Reykjavik.
Halla works with knitted textiles, focusing on blending hand and machine techniques, mixed with crochet and embroidery, in search of a balance between the fast and the slow. She learned to knit at the age of four, taught by her mother, which has given her a deep understanding and appreciation for the craftsmanship.
She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Textile Design, specialising in knitted textiles, at the Swedish School of Textiles in Borås.
