Portrait Fundraiser with Johnny C.Y. Lam

 November 13th & 14th 2026

We are inviting you to participate in the Union House Arts Portrait Fundraiser to support programming and operations at UHA through offering individuals professional headshot sessions with photographer Johnny C.Y. Lam. 70% of the net proceeds are donated directly to UHA.

Sessions will take place on November 13th and 14th, 2026 at the Alt Hotel from 9:00am-6:30pm, with only 32 spots available.

Each participant will receive:

  • 20 minutes of studio time
  • Choice of white or grey background
  • 3 professionally edited high-resolution images
  • Final images delivered in both colour and black & white

This event is also supported by the Alt Hotel who have generously provided us space free of charge to host portrait sessions.

About UHA:

Union House Arts (UHA) is a community artspace in Historic Port Union. UHA is committed to supporting work being produced by artists and craftspeople in Newfoundland and Labrador and around the world through place-specific dialogues and collaborative programming. UHA aims to build a thoughtful space for community residents and artists to work and share together; to expand ideas about what art can be, how and where it can be shown, and to create an environment that is accessible to people of all experiences and educations.

About the photographer.

Johnny C.Y. Lam is best known for his portraiture, food and documentary photography. His work has been recognized with prestigious honours, including Gold for Investigative Reporting at the National Magazine Awards and Gold in Environmental and Climate Change reporting from the Canadian Association of Journalists in 2025. The Best Photograph Category in the National Magazine Award in 2023 and 2024. In 2026, he also received two Applied Arts Photography Awards for the Air Canada’s New Best Restaurants program.
How to Sign Up:

Participants can sign up HERE by selecting their preferred slot and filling out the provided intake and model release form. Once participants complete the sign up form, they will receive an email with details.

Participants can purchase slots for friends and family, but they cannot get photos together. These sessions are for individuals only.

How to get ready for your session:

Pick an outfit that makes you feel confident and represents your personality. Consider ironing or steaming your outfits and make sure to use a lint roller to remove unwanted fluff or pet hair.
Get a good night’s sleep and stay well hydrated.
Please note that our schedule on the shoot day will be very full. Please make sure to arrive at least 15 minutes before your session begins. If you are late we cannot guarantee that you will be able to complete your portrait session. Late arrivals that cannot be accommodated will not be refunded.

How you will receive your photos:

Within 30 days after your session takes place, you will receive an email with a link and a download PIN to download the high resolution files.

You are free to use your photos for your business or personal use, including company websites, social media profiles and editorial features. You do not have the rights to resell the images. If you ever unclear about the usage of images reach out to info@johnnycylam.com

FAQ

1.Where are portraits taking place?

In the Green Room at the Alt Hotel. Upon arrival you will sign in at the UHA table and await your selected spot!

2. Can I bring a pet or props for my session?

You cannot bring pets to your appointment, however small and simple props are okay. There is limited time, so nothing large or complex to set up.

3. What if I can no longer make my session?

We are unable to refund sessions if you are no longer able to make it. However, if you need to cancel your session you are more than welcome to give your session to someone else.
