Oil, Wood & Water: Intro to Wood Lithography Workshop with Margaret Joba-Woodruff

Join Margaret Joba-Woodruff for this 2-day workshop where participants will be introduced to Mokulito printmaking, or Wood Lithography.

Invented by Ozaku Seishi in the 1970’s, this process takes the properties of traditional stone lithography and applies it to plywood. It is a non-toxic, experimental, and accessible alternative to stone which requires intense physical labour, harsh acids, and specialized facilities.

Participants will learn the steps to draw, ink, and print their own designs using a miniature etching press to produce a small edition of handmade prints. Margaret will also share about her process of testing and experimentation while learning Mokulito over the past year with support from many generous printmakers around the world and a Canada Council Research Grant.
