2026 Artist in Residence
September 2 - 27
Mackenzie Browning is a Hamilton-based Canadian artist working across screen
printing, book arts, and sculptural installation. His practice explores themes of holding,
transformation, and our evolving relationship with the natural world, drawing from lived
experiences across Southern Ontario and beyond.
His recent work has shifted toward quieter, process-driven approaches, where
repetition, colour, and material sensitivity guide both form and pace. Water has emerged
as a central thread in his practice, not only as subject matter but as a way of thinking,
informing works that move between structure and fluidity, stillness and motion. Through
print-based methods and hand-built forms, Browning creates immersive and tactile
experiences that invite moments of pause, reflection, and embodied attention.
Alongside his studio work, Browning is an experienced educator who leads workshops
in book arts and printmaking, creating supportive environments rooted in care, curiosity,
and shared exploration. His teaching often incorporates simple breathing techniques to
help participants settle into the rhythm of making.
His work has been exhibited locally and internationally and is held in public and private
collections.
