Karen Stentaford (she/her) is an artist and educator living in Sackville, New Brunswick within Mi’kma’ki. She specializes in large format photography and the wet plate collodion process. Working with a variety of photographic-based media, she creates images that explore place, memory, and her relationship with the land and environment. Rooted in slow photography, repetition, and close looking, her work often responds to specific geographies while fostering connections with community. Since 2013, she has engaged different communities through participatory and collaborative projects, with her Photomatic Travelling Tintype Studio.

Karen currently holds the position of Associate Professor, Pierre Lassonde School of Fine Arts at Mount Allison University. She received a BFA from Mount Allison University, a BEd (Visual Arts Specialist) from NSCAD University & Mount Saint Vincent University and a MA in Photography from the Edinburgh College of Art. Recent exhibitions include of a feather with Thaddeus Holownia (2024, 2025) curated by Emily Falvey for the Owens Art Gallery and St.FX Art Gallery and a group exhibition, erratics II (2024) curated by M’Liz Keefe for J.K. Contemporary. In addition to the UHA AiR, Karen has been selected for residencies at Bonne Bay Aquarium and Research Station, NL, and Ströndin Studio, IS.
