2025 Artist in Residence
October 4 - 29
Joshua Jensen (he/him) is a queer visual artist based in Tiohtià:ke / Mooniyang (Montréal).
Working in analog photography, installation, and through organic processes such as eco-film development, natural dyeing, and sustainable material reuse. His practice centers on the accumulation of images, objects, and text; which are intuitively and poetically gathered together to create an archive of daily life. In his work, he explores poeticism, place, autobiography, and processes of gathering in relation to the everyday; in doing so, he emphasizes observation, presence and sensitivity through visual storytelling and assemblage.
During his residency at Union House Arts, Jensen will be engaging in social practice and local histories, specifically in relation to apple trees scattered throughout the Catalina Harbour, the Bonavista Peninsula, and the tree behind UHA.
Jensen’s work has been presented nationally and internationally; relevant exhibitions of his work include The Canadian Museum of Human Rights, Winnipeg, Manitoba (2017), La Nau, Valencia, Spain (2018), Museu da Agua, Lisbon, Portugal (2018), Articule, Montréal, Québec (2019), Belfast Exposed, Belfast United Kingdom (2024), and at Casa, Lethbridge, Alberta (2024). Jensen has held the position of Arts Administration Intern and Photographer at Fogo Island Arts, Fogo, Newfoundland and Labrador (2022), Program Assistant with the Bonavista Biennale, Bonavista, Newfoundland and Labrador (2023) and he is currently an Installation Technician and a Co-Curator in Sustainability at the FOFA Gallery, Montréal, Quebec (2024-2026). Jensen has recently completed a residency at Casa in Lethbridge, Alberta, and received the Artist-in-Residence award.
